hi, how are you
Thoughts on Gay Marriage

Now it’s not a subject I generally broach as my Tumblr is mainly full of art, things I do.. and other random things. I have just recently watched Out in the Silence (a documentary on homophobia in rural America.. I would suggest it, it’s amazing) Now as a Canadian I have definitely seen some “gay bashing” in my time as I have worked for many gay and queer friendly jobs and have many gay/queer friends. However, here in Canada.. no matter what sex you are or identify as.. you are welcome to marry/be with whomever you would like. Perhaps people are a bit more open on the west coat then other provinces but all in all, it is not a big deal. If people are put off by it, they generally turn their cheek.

Late in high school I only really had interest in women, people knew this about me and it was not an issue. I am from a very small community-type town and I have found that because it’s such a tight knit community, it was better.

I post this because I want to know from my followers what kind of experience you have had with homophobia in your areas? Is it hard to come out? What are the laws?

  1. gollygee-damn answered: I live in a small city in North Carolina I’d say majority of the folks are redneck/close-minded/homophobic. That’s the bible-belt for ya.
  2. anorable answered: in the state of Washington it’s currently becoming legal. I live in a really liberal town so it’s nbd but at my school it’s hell.
  3. gabriellephant answered: I live in London in a house with a married gay couple, we say married but it’s technically a Civil Partnership, only legal here since 2005.
  4. boysareamazing answered: Can’t get married in Aus!Only been insulted once because of my sexuality and that was in the city whereas my town seems to be fine.
  5. arfism answered: I in general feel pretty safe as a queer in both Victoria and Vancouver. The worst that has happened with me is yelling/staring/comments.
  6. theduchessandthecougar said: There was an attempt to legalize gay marriage back in 2008 here in California but was turned down. It’s strange since I work/live in long beach which has a huge gay population and it seems to be fine here. The rest of the state needs to catch up.
  7. kristy-of-owlsandelephants answered: Washington is very close to legalizing gay marriage. I’m surprised it took this long, since we’re a pretty darn liberal state here.
  8. thegeekyhippie said: I moved to Utah (Mormon central) I was surprised to find people are actually very accepting, especially at my college. But I live in the city, I have heard it’s very bad in rural areas where 90% are Mormon. And there is still such a long way to go.

western/slightly northern Alberta. I’m not out, but that’s mostly due to...own issues....
  10. stokedapples answered: it doesn’t seem the phobia is to bad, we cant get married, when I was younger I found it difficult to come out.
  11. supercourtneyyyy answered: My friend is lesbian and I am straight and I when we talk about relationship issues there is no different. I wish more people would see that.
  12. joelrich answered: u cant put dic in annothr dic or it hert
  13. velvetant answered: didn’t Harper overturn gay marriage?
  14. kittencreamery answered: I live in NC-USA and it is illegal here. NC is one of the more accepting states in the south. I’m sure it is difficult though
  15. ruhruhrandy answered: I live in rural southern America. My father is actually a southern Baptist preacher. There’s little to no tolerance here.
  16. littlebluerobot answered: I used to live in rural Manitoba and homophobia is as rampant as ever there. Here in Winnipeg, it’s not as bad. People seem pretty chill.
