Now it’s not a subject I generally broach as my Tumblr is mainly full of art, things I do.. and other random things. I have just recently watched Out in the Silence (a documentary on homophobia in rural America.. I would suggest it, it’s amazing) Now as a Canadian I have definitely seen some “gay bashing” in my time as I have worked for many gay and queer friendly jobs and have many gay/queer friends. However, here in Canada.. no matter what sex you are or identify as.. you are welcome to marry/be with whomever you would like. Perhaps people are a bit more open on the west coat then other provinces but all in all, it is not a big deal. If people are put off by it, they generally turn their cheek.
Late in high school I only really had interest in women, people knew this about me and it was not an issue. I am from a very small community-type town and I have found that because it’s such a tight knit community, it was better.
I post this because I want to know from my followers what kind of experience you have had with homophobia in your areas? Is it hard to come out? What are the laws?

I live in a small city in North Carolina I’d say majority of the folks are redneck/close-minded/homophobic. That’s the bible-belt for ya.

in the state of Washington it’s currently becoming legal. I live in a really liberal town so it’s nbd but at my school it’s hell.

I live in London in a house with a married gay couple, we say married but it’s technically a Civil Partnership, only legal here since 2005.

I in general feel pretty safe as a queer in both Victoria and Vancouver. The worst that has happened with me is yelling/staring/comments.

There was an attempt to legalize gay marriage back in 2008 here in California but was turned down. It’s strange since I work/live in long beach which has a huge gay population and it seems to be fine here. The rest of the state needs to catch up.

Washington is very close to legalizing gay marriage. I’m surprised it took this long, since we’re a pretty darn liberal state here.

I moved to Utah (Mormon central) I was surprised to find people are actually very accepting, especially at my college. But I live in the city, I have heard it’s very bad in rural areas where 90% are Mormon. And there is still such a long way to go.

I live in NC-USA and it is illegal here. NC is one of the more accepting states in the south. I’m sure it is difficult though

I live in rural southern America. My father is actually a southern Baptist preacher. There’s little to no tolerance here.

I used to live in rural Manitoba and homophobia is as rampant as ever there. Here in Winnipeg, it’s not as bad. People seem pretty chill.
